Earlier this month, Jamiroquai announced they'd be bringing back the funk with their first new album in seven years, Automaton. Now, the British outfit have revealed more details about the Rock Dust Light Star follow-up, including sharing its title track. Automaton is set for a March 31st release via Virgin EMI. Frontman Jay Kay wrote and self-produced the record alongside keyboardist Matt Johnson. âThe inspiration for Automaton is in recognition of the rise of artificial intelligence and technology in our world today,â Kay said in a press release, âand how we as humans are beginning to forget the more pleasant, simple and eloquent things in life and in our environment including our relationship with one another as human beings. â Nothing will likely summarize that notion better than the album's title track. It's a sci-fi wonderland of vocoders and electronic whirs, all while mainting an air of disco-funk exploration and self-reflection. âI put my faith in a digital world,â sings Kay at one point. âBut they've given me/ Eyes without a face.â Charlie Lightening (Arcade Fire, Björk) directed the song's video, which sees Kay showing off his new motile headpiece and, of course, some inimitable dance moves. Check it out below. Automaton is available for pre-order now, with the title track offered as an insta-grat download. Find the album art and tracklist ahead. Alice In Chains are working on a new album, bassist Mike Inez has confirmed. During an otherwise uninteresting interview for guitar makers Framus & Warwick, Inez revealed that the band began to record their sixth studio album last month (when the interview took place). âBeing in the studio for twenty hours a day isn't fun, but it's a great job,â he said. âBut we try to make that our clubhouse and separate that from the business, kind of. So we're still in that⦠playing in the sandbox, kind of, for this new record anyways. We're still getting together in the same city, and plugging in in the same room. âToday is actually our first day [recording] and I'm already late, 'cause I'm here talking to you, so it shows you how professional we still are,â he added. This album will mark an interesting point in the band's career. Original vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002, following years of inactivity and drug addiction â the band was basically halted from 1996 onwards while Staley tried and failed numerous times to kick his addiction to heroin. The band reformed in 2006 with new vocalist William DuVall, recording two well-received albums: 2009's Black Gives Way To Blue and 2013's excellently-named The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. With this 2017 album, DuVall will have recorded lead vocals on as many albums as Staley â an interesting marker, and testament to the fact that a great band doesn't necessarily live and die with its vocalist. Now, listen to 'Rooster'.  While most overseas publications rated the likes of Beyonce or Bowie as the album of the year contenders last year, one glowing recommendation for an Aussie artist comes courtesy of The Killers' frontman Brandon Flowers, who has just singled out Seekae's Alex Cameron as having the best record of 2016. This comes despite the fact that the record in question, Jumping The Shark, was actually sneakily released by Cameron way back in 2013, and merely saw a wider U.S. release last year, Music Feeds reports. But hey, with the record getting a proper release this year from new label Secretly Canadian and producing some of the best video clips this year, that counts in our book. Brandon took to Twitter to heap praise on the Sydney artist's solo effort, first teasing the announcement with a bit of a 'drumroll please' moment, before sealing the deal with the short but sweet hashtag.
Unfortunately for Alex, most of Brandon's followers seemed preoccupied with a need for new Killers tunes or tour dates â or were more interested in the carefully-perched hat seen in the photo alongside the vinyl. Not to take anything away from Alex, who knocked it out of the park this year with a aforementioned string of brilliant videos taken from the new record, but there may be just a little bias at work here, as he's has since posted a snap showing he and Brandon getting matey in Vegas.
If it's the sign of a possible collaboration between the two charismatic frontmen, it's a very exciting prospect indeed, especially considering The Killers have been all quiet since 2012's Battle Born. To see what Brandon's raving about, check out the most recent clip from the album, 'Mongrel', below.
